Analytic Mapping

In this section of our class DH project, we’ll continue processing our sources and work towards discovering some new information within those sources we can present to an audience. Here’s what I need you to do to complete this part of the project.

  1. Work on adding items to the Geolocated map in Omeka and extracting named locations from items on Wednesday, September 27. I should see your name in this spreadsheet claiming an item mapped or extracted, and I should see that item on the map and/or with locations added to the “coverage” field.
  2. Find an item from your everyday life with a mapable location on it. For example, an item from a business you visited with the business address, a flyer for a community activity you attended with the location of the activity, a program from a religious or community event with the location of the event, etc. Add it to our Omeka collection for “Everyday life 2023” and Geolocate it. Do this and record your contribution prior to Friday, September 29 using this Google form.
  3. Participate in our mapping activities in class on Friday, September 29. We’ll compare the map generated by our scrapbook items and every day items from our lives in 2023. We’ll build maps of where WCU sports teams played in 1947 and 2023 and compare those. I will ask you to screenshot one of these maps and include it in your blog post for the week along with your reflections on the spatial analysis we did.
