Welcome back to our class! My videos below are simple, but I think they communicate the week’s content clearly enough. There are two quizzes to complete: one on visualization and network concepts, and one on modularity and centrality. First a quick recap of some of your thoughts and questions about archives:

Don’t forget to start thinking about tech tutorials! Next, my intro to what visualization is and why Digital Humanists do it:

Thumbnail for that video is terrible, I know. Next up my intro to Network Concepts (the first quiz is linked after this one!):

You should be ready for the first quiz now! I’m giving you two attempts on this one, so if you don’t do well the first time, take a look at the videos again and try it over.

Quiz 1: Visualization and Network Concepts

(If that link doesn’t work, go to the course D2L, select “Quizzes” from the top menu and then “Visualization and Network Concepts.”)

Next up, two short videos on network modularity and centrality. I decided to just do one quiz for both of these, despite what I say in the video, so look for it after the centrality video.

Once you are done with those, you’re ready for quiz 2. Like before, you have two attempts:

Quiz 2: Network Modularity and Centrality

(Again, if you have trouble with the link, the quiz is available via D2L using the “Quizzes” option from the top menu.)

Once you’re done with that, you’re all set with class material for today. Come back Thursday for some video mini lectures about maps and DH mapping. See you then!

WATCH AND COMPLETE

In this short video mini-lecture, I explain how thinking about digital maps in DH means thinking rhetorically about audience and purpose. Take a look:

Once you finish the video mini-lecture, head over to the DH Projects List and scroll down to find a mapping project. Investigate the project for a few minutes, thinking about audience and purpose. Then, share what you found on the discussion forum. (If that link doesn’t work, go to “Discussions” On D2L and find the “Mapping Discussion” topic)

The quizzes and discussion forum are all the participation I am asking for this week, however, if you have a question you want to ask me about network or map visualizations, you can post it to this questions forum for bonus participation points!

Don’t forget your blog post, and I’ll see you next week to discuss remediation in the Digital Humanities.
