Final Reflection

For your final assignment for this class, please compose about 400-800 words responding to the following prompt:

What did you learn about digital media and digital culture, more broadly, by completing your digital humanities project? What did you discover about the affordances of digital media by engaging with the digital tools you used to complete your project? What do the capabilities of the digital humanities we engaged with suggest about the broader social implications of digital technology? How will you engage with the digital media you use in everyday life differently after the experience of completing your digital humanities project?

Your reflection need not be profound but it should be meaningful. That is, I don’t expect you to have world-shattering insights, but show me how you gained some new perspective on our digitally mediated world by engaging with digital technology in this new way.

A good reflection will show me your experience, rather than just telling me about it. That is to say, a less than great reflection might say “I discovered metadata was important by completing my project” whereas a better reflection might explain the process of metadata creation the student went through while building their project, and discuss how specific steps in this process helped you learn about how metadata works and why it is important.

Reflections will be evaluated based on:

  • How well they demonstrate the student’s attention to issues/ideas raised in class readings and discussions
  • How well they use details from the student’s project to explain insights into digital media and culture
  • How well they use of appropriate classroom style and organization (well formed paragraphs, free of grammar mistakes, etc)
